Barbecue Bacon Chicken Burgers

Updated: Feb 22, 2024

Burger Night Done Right

Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of chicken burgers, but if you slather it with a delectable honey barbecue sauce and top it with bacon, I’m in. We will do anything for our health, but compromising taste should not be a requirement! Enjoy this healthier version of an American classic that will the whole family licking their chops.

Made with a homemade Honey Barbecue Sauce. Recipe here.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground chicken dark or other ground option

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce plus additional for serving

Optional to Serve

  • 1 cup coleslaw (my recipe is in the making)

  • Buns or bread to serve (We love sourdough or Dave’s Killer Bread Organic Burger Buns for our dietary profile)

  • Note: If Wheat or Gluten-Free please forgo the bun. If you can have eggs/dairy, there are plenty of gluten-free options, but I haven't found a good one that is free of all Top 9.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat grill to medium-high heat. If weather does not permit, heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat is a great alternative. Brush the grill grates or pan with cooking oil to keep the burgers from sticking.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, garlic powder, salt and barbecue sauce until all ingredient are evenly distributed.

  3. Option to divide meat into 4 servings or more for thinner burgers. Roll each into a ball. To shape, place one ball on a piece of parchment paper, place another piece on top, and utilize a plate the flatten.

  4. Cook on the first side for 5 minutes. Flip the burgers, and continue to cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken burgers reach 160 degrees F.

  5. Remove the burgers and place on a plate. Cover with a second plate or aluminum foil to maintain heat and allow burger to reach 165 degrees internal temperature.

  6. Serve the burgers on buns with coleslaw or as desired.
